On Press Issue: Drying

Potential Cause: Ink taking on too much water

Solution: Adjust ink/water balance

Potential Cause: Ink film thinkness is excessive

Solution: Run less ink. Check formula for proper ink strength. Increase strength of ink if appropriate.

Potential Cause: Plate dampening uneven

Solution: Keep dampeners clean and free from accumulated dirt. Prevent drafts, check windows, vents, and forced air systems. Check metering roller skew.

Potential Cause: pH or conductivity incorrect

Solution: Adjust fountain solution pH and conductivity if necessary

Potential Cause: Ink isn't formulated for the substrate

Solution: Review formula. Make sure the proper drier has been added.

Potential Cause: Insufficient air/oxygen circulation between sheets

Solution: Wind sheets between printing and other operations. Use anti-set-off spray to keep sheets apart. Impervious sheets such as plastics and foil should be kept in small lifts, slip sheeted, or winded frequently.
