LaserForm Ti Gr23 (A) 3D printing material is a Titanium alloy producing technical and medical parts with a combination of high specific strength and excellent biocompatibility. LaserForm Ti Gr23 (A) is ELI (Extra Low Interstitial) grade with lower iron, carbon, and oxygen content and is known for higher purity than LaserForm Ti Gr5 (A) resulting in improved ductility and fracture toughness
This titanium alloy is commonly used in aerospace and medical applications because of its high strength, low weight and excellent biocompatibility. The essential difference between Ti6Al4V ELI (grade 23) and Ti6Al4V (grade 5) is the reduction of oxygen content to 0.13% (maximum) in grade 23. This confers improved ductility and fracture toughness, with some reduction in strength. These benefits make LaserForm Ti Gr23 (A) the most used medical and aerospace titanium grade. It can be used in biomedical applications such as surgical implants, orthodontic appliances or in-joint replacements due to its biocompatibility, good fatigue strength and low modulus.

What is the 3D printing process for this material?
Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) is an additive manufacturing technology that builds high quality complex metal parts from 3D CAD data. In the machine, a high precision laser is directed to metal powder particles to selectively build up thin horizontal metal layers one after the other. This cutting edge technology allows for the production of metal parts with challenging geometries, not possible using traditional subtractive or casting technologies. A variety of functional metals are available to print designs, from prototypes to production series of up to 20,000 units.
Will there be support scarring on this part?
Direct Metal Laser Sintering does require the use of support material. The support structure is made of the same metal material as the part material and will leave support scarring, that can be post processed to provide a smooth surfact finish.
How long will it take before I receive my part in this material?
Production times vary depending on machine availability, but generally LaserForm Ti Gr23-A 3D parts are printed and shipped within one to two weeks.
What is the minimum recommended feature size for this 3D printing technology?
The minimum recommended feature size is 0.010"
